I'm starting to feel like a commercial for Home Depot or something.

If you remember, the Home Depot Guy (aka David) has been a regular at the Cactus Road Farm lately. He's helping - or rather my darling husband is helping him build the most amazing chicken coop. We're talking amazing.

I have decided to call these sorts of things - my husband's projects - my therapy projects. You see, I sorta like to (a-hem) control - help him.

Just yesterday, he asked me to help him. Note he asked. But what he asked is that I'd do exactly as he needed AND that I wouldn't say a word, not ask a question, just look cute and stare up at him with great admiration.

I know why Michael said that. It's because, I like most wives, will tend to ask a few questions mind you only because sometimes I'm thinking there might be a better way or a different way to do something).

So you're probably wondering how all this is my therapy right? Every time my husband does a project, I get learn and watch just how he WILL get it done - not my timing or the way that I think - but in his. The more I show support, cease with questions and just be an encourager, the faster those projects get done.

With this particular project - of the coop - I worked really hard at self control and keeping most of my comments to myself. I could see that it truly was what Michael needed most. And I'm wondering if God didn't work one of those works - by bring David into Michael's life - for him and for me - as a gift? Hmmm....

The Home Depot Guy

You have to understand that my husband isn't really a builder, but rather he's a musician, a philosopher, a gardener and a pastor - and mostly he's a lover of God and of people.

Yet, whatever he needs to do, he'll study, ask questions, research and then he'll throw himself into it - even building something that we might need like a chicken coop. Here's Michael's first coop.

Perhaps this is what I love most about this man. He works hard and isn't afraid to try anything. He's also humble enough to ask for help if he thinks it's something he could use some expertise on.

Being the wonderful helpmeet that I am (a-hem), I phoned my favorite Home Depot store on Christmas Eve because months ago I'd seen a shed on sale in the garden shop that I thought perhaps would work just fine for the chicken coop and then my husband wouldn't have to go through all the hassle and time to build a coop. After all there is so much other work that should/could be done here on this new farm project - at least in my (a-hem) humble opinion - not.

I really thought that perhaps this might solve all the problems. (Mind you - no one was asking me to solve any problems. My husband didn't think there were any problems. He was just fine with the process and he actually loves the challenge of building.)

Back to the Home Depot story.

What was so interesting and what was so God was first there were no sheds on sale but second - after I mentioned to The Home Depot Guy David that my husband was making a chicken coop the first thing out of his mouth was, "I'll show him how to build one. If he comes in, I'll help him."

Are you kidding me? Unreal. How often does something like this happen?

So, my darling builder guy went to Home Depot to meet David - the guy in the garden shop. I don't really know how long David walked the aisles of HD with my husband, but what I do know is that he came home with just under $400 worth of "stuff" to build me the finest ever looking chicken coop. David drew out the plans and took time to explain to Michael how to build this great looking coop. It turns out David is a chicken lover and built his coop.

The story has a few other pieces to it, but what is more important is that David, the Home Depot Guy offered to come to the farm to help my husband build the chicken coop. My hubby is on the left, David with the white hat and then David's wife Jenni standing off to the right.

Today, Monday, David stopped by to see the progress and then told my husband that he had off on Tuesday and would be over to help finish the coop.

Wow, amazing. Simply amazing.

Summer BBQ Tip

One of the things I love to do while shopping at my local grocery is to come up along side another woman and begin some sort of conversation.

Today, I did I quick run to Sprouts to pick up a whole chicken (it's in my Sun Oven) for dinner. While there, I lolly gagged my way over to the cheese section. I needed/wanted some Brie cheese.

Lo and behold, while there I had a delightful chat with a New Yorker about the blue cheese she was looking for. Being simply me, I asked her about her plans for that blue cheese.

Of course, women love to share some of the secrets of their special dishes. And she did.

She intended to make a blue cheese sauce to pour over her BBQ chicken legs.

Well, these weren't JUST chicken legs - but she proceeded to tell me HOW to prepare them. She described the below rack and said that I NEEDED to get one to bbq chicken legs or wings. She told (with this big smile) me twice that all the fat dripped down and it left the skin nice and crispy.

On that note - I decided I WANTED one.

Anyone else heard of these or had experiencing using them for summer barbecuing?
