This Book is Effecting The Way I Think About Food, Water and Other Things

I like a good challenge to my boxed in way of thinking and this book is one that is doing it for me. Animal, Vegetable, Miracle (still in process of reading it) has made me think about how I view food, water and the resources God's given us - as a nation (USA) and how much we've wasted, squandered, abused and taken advantage of them.

We're such a nation of "entitlement" and it's just about destroyed us. We know longer (rarely) sweat and work hard for what we value or what we should value and yet take for granted.

I believed we've removed a sense of responsibility from peoples lives to the degree that NOW some/many live with the idea that someone else (like the Government) owes them.

I'd love your thoughts!

I've switched to buying as much of our food local as I can currently find after reading this book. It's fun! :)

I loved this book too! I read it like a novel, I could barely put it down! I went right down to the local farmers stand and bought what they had, spots and bruises and all! I will buy this book one day and refer to it over and over. I'm living in Mozambique now and some stuff can get local but not too much. But it was SSSOOO eye-opening!
Enjoy!

I haven't read that book but I'm intrigued. You're right. So many people think they are owed something. There is a real lack of responsibility for one's self in our society.

I love this book too!!! This book made me think about food and community in a different way! This should be required reading for our college kiddos! We should all know where our food is coming from. I have an egg source, honey source, and meat source, and adore my local farmer's market!
