Important Ways to Protect You and Your Family From the Swine Flue

Reading Flu Victim's Baby Girl Goes home inspired me quite quickly to google and post some natural type of resources for you to think about NOW to protect yourself and family from this H1N1 bug.

I did a quick google search and came up with a few NATURAL resources/ways you can begin to protect yourself and your family. What is YOUR plan to take care of yourself, your children and your husband (if you have one)?

The first resource is my first choice.

Swine Flu: No one’s talking about building natural immunity

This is part of an email sent to Weston A Price Foundation Members:
You are all aware of the dire warnings about swine flu, the outbreak that started in the Mexican
village of La Gloria and which local residents blame on infection and/or toxins coming from local confinement hog operations.

The internet is abuzz with warnings bordering on hysteria (conventional media) to a variety of conspiracy theories, and even to allegations that the pandemic is a government fabrication designed to sell stockpiles of anti-viral medications.

Conventional medical advice ranges from wearing face masks to taking the anti-viral drug called tamiflu (which can have many serious side effects.

It is interesting to note that not once in all the media broadcasts have we heard any mention of building natural immunity.

Natural Immunity
Fortunately, we do not have to sit back and listen to the news about swine flu feeling helpless and anxious. We can be proactive by simply nourishing ourselves and our families.

Vitamins A and D in cod liver oil offer strong protection against infection of all types, as well as against environmental toxins.

Vitamin C is important-either from vitamin C-rich foods like sauerkraut, or from one of the natural vitamin C supplements recommended in our Shopping Guide.

Healthy gut flora provide 85 percent of our protection against disease. Be sure to consume healthy lacto-fermented foods and beverages every day and avoid the foods that disrupt gut flora, especially refined carbohydrates.

Lylah's insert: STOP FEEDING YOUR KIDS THE WHITE CRAP - BREAD, SUGAR, CEREAL LOADED WITH CRAP. YOU'RE DESTROYING THEIR GUTS BECAUSE YOU'RE TOO LAZY OR TIRED TO MAKE A HEARTY BOWL OF OATMEAL OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT TAKES TIME TO PREPARE. Phew, got that off my chest.

Bone broth plays a double role of supporting the immune system and helping the body detoxify.

Lylah's insert: - make chicken soup/broth several times a week - keep it on hand. I do.

Coconut Oil
We are grateful to Beth Beisel, registered dietitian and WAPF member for reminding us about the protective factors in coconut oil. Swine flu is a lipid coated virus, and thus is inactivated by sufficient amounts of monolaurin. (Our bodies convert lauric acid, found in coconut oil, to monolaurin).

According to our own Dr. Mary Enig, two to three tablespoons of coconut oil per day appears to be an adequate dosage to fight infection, even from virulent antibiotic-resistant organisms such as MSRA.

There are lots of ways to get coconut oil into the diet: stir coconut oil in some tea; make macaroons; replace some of the butter in baking with coconut oil; and use it in cooking/sauteing. Mary’s oil blend (see below) is a good way to incorporate coconut oil in cooking and salad dressings.

Mary’s Oil Blend

1/3 melted coconut oil
1/3 sesame oil - expeller pressed
1/3 100% olive oil

Combine oils, store in a tight container, in an area free from sunlight, and use in cooking or on salads.

Coconut Smoothie

Beth has shared this great smoothie recipe with us.

1 banana
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup frozen pineapple
1 cup orange juice
1/2 cup pomegranate/blueberry juice
1/2 cup natural yogurt or kefir, preferably homemade from raw milk
1/2 can coconut milk

Whirl in blender and drink to your health!

What to do to Naturally Treat & Prevent H1N1 Infection?

#1 - Eat Raw Garlic: Every day, chew on 2-5 cloves of raw garlic. This can be done quite easily when you chew the garlic with water in your mouth and swallow. This significantly boosts your immune system and protects your body from various pathogens such as the flu.

#2 - Vitamin C: Every day consume 6-12 grams of vitamin C, that's 6,000mg-12,000mg of vitamin C. This significantly boosts your immune system and protects your body from viruses. Should you contract a virus you can mega dose 30-50 grams of vitamin C per day for a few days to significantly boost your immune system and rapidly destroy the virus before it has time to spread.

#3 - Juicing: What do I mean? I mean go out buy a juicer and start juicing fresh organic vegetables and fruits every day. This helps your body get all the nutrients it needs to optimize its functioning and strengthen the immune system significantly. Did you ever wonder why some people just don't get sick, very often their bodies have good levels of all the necessary vitamins and minerals. When your body has everything it needs it will protect you more than anything else from pathogens.

#4 - Elderberry Powder: This is potentially the best herb to have in battling the H1N1 as it contains compounds which prevent viruses from attaching to cells in the body. Effectively neutralizing a flu infection. Stock up on the powder now, its cheap & could literally be a lifesaver if the H1N1 ever becomes a serious problem.

In the meantime to prevent getting sick you can start eliminating the factors from your body that suppress immune function. This includes eliminating parasites, remove processed food from the diet and best of all start a candida elimination protocol. This will help permanently strengthen your body against infections and boost your overall health.

This resource
  1. Step1

Take 1,000 IU of Vitamin D3 per day until the flu season starts. Vitamin D3 is absorbed by the body better than D or D2. Vitamin D helps with the body' s immune system.

  2. Step2

When the flu season starts, take 5,000 IU of vitamin D3. This is the dosage needed to prevent the flu.

  3. Step3

When the flu season is over, go back to 1,000 IU of vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is fat soluble and should not be taken at large doses forever. !,000IU is safe.

  4. Step4

When taking vitamin D, take calcium. I recommend Floridix calcium. It is predigested by enzymes for better absorption. Be sure your multiple vitamin and mineral has magnesium. 500 mg is the recommended dosage. You need magnesium to absorb the calcium.

  5. Step5

Use a saline nasal spray a couple of times a day. Start asap. The solution creates an environment in the nasal passages that prevent bacteria and viruses from multiplying.

    1. Step6

And as always, wash your hands before touching food or your face.

The following advice came from this resource.

How to treat the Swine Flu H1N1 virus naturally with homeopathy

This article will discuss how to treat the H1N1 Virus or Swine Flu Symptoms using homeopathic remedies. The use of homeopathic remedies to treat the H1N1 virus, or swine / avian flu is not new. The most successful homeopathic remedies used to treat patients with the Spanish flu in 1918 were Gelsemium and Bryonia. Records from that epidemic documented that the mortality rate of people treated with traditional medicine and drugs was 30 percent, while those treated by homeopathic practitioners and remedies had a mortality rate of only 1.05 percent! The practice of homeopathic medicine was more popular than allopathic medicine in the United States and Europe at that time and is based on the sound principles of “like cures like” first noted in the writings of Hippocrates and later refined and called the practice of homeopathy by the German physician, writer and scholar Samuel Hahnemann in the mid 1800's. In a nutshell, homeopathy and homeopathic remedies work on the totality of a person’s symptoms (the symptom picture). The choice of a remedy needs to be based on the symptoms that best match the remedy names. The recommended potency is 30C times per day is as recommended by the manufacturer on the lab

      1. Step1

Antimonium tartaricum - for a cough that is a loose, rattling with little expectoration that can be followed by vomiting.

Asclepias vincetoxicum - for a dry spasmodic cough which is painful and may cause a burning sensation in the chest.

Belladonna - for a dry, short and tickling cough.

Bryonia - for a cough that is dry and there is weakness.

Gelsemium - for bronchitis and dry throat.

Rumex crispus - for a dry tickling cough where the cough starts as soon as the person goes outside.

Cocus cacti - for a tickling throat.

Drosera - for a barking cough that is worse after midnight.

Dulcamara - for a cough that is caused by damp weather.

Eupatorium - for a raw, painful cough.

Euphrasia - for a cough that is better when lying down in bed at night.

Hepar sulphuratum - for the cough that is loose, rattling and croaking where the person loses their voice.

Kali bic - for someone who coughs more in the mornings, on waking and is worse after eating.

Nux vomica - for the cough that is worse in the morning and in bed.

Phosphorous - for a lingering tickling cough or a cough from a hoarse throat, or with raw burning throat pains.

Pulsatilla - for a cough that is accompanied by like gagging or choking.

Rhus tox - for a cough that is worse from cold weather and worse before a chill.

Spongia - for coughs with wheezing and stubborn profuse yellow lumpy mucus.

      2. Step2

Other ways to help you overcome the threat of serious complications from any flu include avoiding dairy products and fried foods, sugar, soft drinks, artificial sweeteners and food additives. Drink plenty of fluids, at least one quart daily. Stay home from work or school and keep warm.

To aid in your recovery, drink ginger tea which can not only act as an anti-viral but is also very good for an upset stomach. Add two tablespoons of grated fresh ginger to two cups of water, bring to a boil for fifteen minutes, remove from heat, cover and let steep for ten minutes. Drink as needed. Like raw garlic? Garlic is a natural anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral that will help speed recovery and boost your immune system.

      3. Step3

If you do not have a family homeopath or convenient health food store in your area and would like to purchase from an online homeopathic pharmacy, a link to a list of these is included in the Resources below. If you would like to locate a family homeopath near you, please see the link to contact the National Center for Homeopathy in the Resources section. If you would like to read more about the practice of homeopathic medicine for yourself and your family, I have included a link to a book on Amazon.com that was my first reference book almost 25 years ago now. My homeopathic library has grown much larger since then.

First time to read your blog. Great info! I've been trying to teach my friends and family these same healthy immune boosters. I was saddened yesterday when a good friend called and said she and her children were on their way to get the flu shot. I love the idea of putting this info on the blog - may spread the word on my new blog also. (hope you don't mind) Thanks for the inspiration of good health! Blessings, Rebekah
