Lylah's Best Chicken or Steak Marinade

This is my best marinade....called Lylah's Best Chicken or Steak Marinade (actually, it was from a friend while we lived in Portland). You've got to try it - it's truly fabulous! And, I always triple it and freeze what’s left over.

Combine in a large bowl: 4 T oil, 4 T soy sauce, 2 T lemon, 1 T brown sugar, 2 crushed cloves of garlic, 1 T basil leaves.

Mix this as best you can and if barbequing chicken stick a whole clove into each boneless skinless chicken breast and then soak your meat pieces in this marinade. Add a dash of pepper to each chicken piece.

This is best prepared the day before or at least the morning of so your meat can soak up the spices. Hmmm. Let me know how you like it!

I am a vegetarian, but I was wondering as I was reading this - do you think marinade would work on tofu? Hmm - an interesting thought. I will have to try it and let you know.

Good morning! Read your recipe on Sunday and had steaks defrosting for dinner so gave your marinade a try. All I can say is, "It's a KEEPER!" Thanks for sharing and I love reading your blog Lylah. -- Dorothy in Maricopa, AZ

So I tried this recipe with tofu this week. I made a few slight changes, but it turned out great. My husband loved it.
